SUMMARY:PdM community workshop on ’Business Agility’
DESCRIPTION:We welcome the Software Center partners to the next Product data Management (PdM) community workshop on the topic of business agility. \nWORKSHOP FOCUS\nIn this workshop\, we: \n\nDiscuss the current ways-of-working in the participant companies with regards to the different technologies involved in a system (i.e. mechanics – electronics – software – data – AI). In this discussion\, we explore the level of agility for each technology and to what extent agile practices are applicable.\nIdentify the challenges that companies experience when applying agile practices to the more traditional (and non-software) parts of the organization as well as how they typically manage these challenges.\nExplore the potential to complement\, and/or replace\, traditional business models with models for continuous value capture and how the combination of the two helps improve business agility.\n\nWORKSHOP OUTCOMES\nWith this workshop\, we aim to (1) identify the optimal level of agility for each technology involved in an embedded system\, we (2) explore strategies for managing challenges when applying agile practices in non-software parts of the organization and we (3) discuss how business agility is accelerated by strategic use of transactional and digital business models. \nWORKSHOP FORMAT\nThe workshop is a cross-company workshop to which all Software Center companies are invited. It is organized especially for product managers as part of the PdM community workshop series and with the intention to have the companies exchange knowledge and best practices. \nBACKGROUND\nBusiness agility is critical for companies across domains as it involves the ability to quickly respond to market dynamics and to emerging technologies. While business agility\, and agile practices as its enabler\, has predominantly been associated with the software industry it is rapidly becoming key for companies in the embedded systems industry. \nHowever\, the adoption of agile practices is fundamentally different in embedded systems companies compared to software companies. For embedded systems companies\, business agility requires all parts of the system to be agile\, including traditional technologies such as mechanics and electronics as well as digital technologies such as software\, data and AI. \nDue to this\, agility means different things for the different technologies involved and for an embedded systems company business agility is achieved when having (1) identified the optimal level of agility for each technology. \nMoreover\, while traditional technologies have so far been monetized using transactional business models\, digital technologies allow for continuous business models in which frequent improvements of system functionality makes systems improve throughout their economic life. This means that business agility is achieved when (2) the transactional business models are complemented\, or replaced with\, with models that enable continuous value capture of these technologies. \nRegistration: Please send an e-mail to helena.holmstrom.olsson@mau.se if you are interested in participating
