SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: From operational data to business insights
DESCRIPTION:From operational data to business insights: It’s as much about mindset as it is about data \nSpeaker: Iris Figalist (works as a Platform & Data Architect at Siemens\, Munich and is also an industrial PhD student. \nAbstract: “It’s all about data” has become a common saying to strengthen the power it has in today’s world. Many software-intensive companies have started to collect operational data of their products deployed in production. However\, this data is not worth anything if you cannot make actual use of it. This talk covers our experiences and challenges at Siemens in using operational data to generate insights for business functions like product management or sales. A few real-world examples will be shared to highlight the technical and B2B-specific challenges as well as the collaboration and communication with business stakeholders.

SUMMARY:Efficient and Effective Exploratory Testing of Large-Scale Software Systems
DESCRIPTION:The Software Center publication “Efficient and Effective Exploratory Testing of Large-Scale Software Systems” has been selected as one of ten papers for the Journal of Software and Systems “JSS Happy Hour” event in April. The papers are presented in a short video\, and discussed by expert panelists. According to the Editor-in-Chiefs\, the paper was selected “due to its high download statistics\, its topic\, and its overall quality”. The event is broadcasted from David Shepherd’s Youtube channel (JSS Editor-in-Chief) at noon on April 16th.

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Data Labeling
DESCRIPTION:Data Labeling: Industrial Challenges and Mitigation Strategies \nLabels are a prerequisite to perform supervised machine learning. However\, in industrial contexts\, data is often incomplete because labels are missing partially or entirely. Even if there exist manual\, semi-automatic\, and automatic techniques\, such as crowdsourcing\, active-learning (AL)\, and semi-supervised learning (SSL)\, we have seen that AL and SSL are rarely implemented due to lack of knowledge of their existence. Furthermore\, labeling instances manually is not optimal as it is time-consuming and challenging to maintain the quality of the labels due to the human factor. Crowdsourcing has its merits\, but it also includes sharing potentially sensitive data with third-party organizations\, which is not an option for many companies. In this talk\, we will discuss data labeling challenges and mitigation strategies based on the research conducted so far and how we wish to push it forward in the future. \nSpeaker: Teodor Fredriksson\, Chalmers \n

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: How to Fail at Continuous Practices
DESCRIPTION:Most welcome to the next Brown Bag Seminar\, hosted by Theme 1 (“Continuous Delivery”): \nSpeaker: Daniel Ståhl \nWe have all read the books\, watched the movies and listened to the talks telling us how to succeed at continuous integration\, continuous delivery and all things continuous. By all rights\, this would seem to be a solved problem – and yet… \nIn this brown bag seminar we turn the tables on the standard conversation and consider the ways in which we can properly and thoroughly fail at continuous practices. All based on research and experience\, with a tiny bit of interpretation mixed in. \nMost welcome and please help us share this invite within your organizations!
