SUMMARY:How to succeed with communicating software metrics in the organization?
DESCRIPTION:This week we have project #37 giving a talk about How to succeed with communicating software metrics in the organization? – Five questions for managers \nSpeaker: Aleksandre Asatiani from University of Gothenburg. \nWhile software metrics are indispensable for quality assurance\, using metrics in practice is far from uncomplicated. Implementing and executing metrics are challenging tasks as it is difficult to manage the technical and human aspects of the software measurement. Based on the data from four companies\, the study identifies several bottlenecks in the process of metrics implementation and communication\, suggesting key questions managers should ask to help them success in the process. The findings also highlight the importance of trust\, control\, and transparency in communication between developers and management\, emphasizing the paramount role of an effective communication process for decision making\, based on metrics. \n__________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nLearn More | Meeting options \n__________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Modern use of control dependency in static program analysis
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the next Software Center lunch seminar hosted by theme 2! \nTitle: The modern use of control dependency in static program analysis \nSpeaker: Abu Naser Masud\, Mälardalen University \nControl dependency (CD) is a fundamental concept used in many program analysis techniques such as program slicing\, debugging\, parallelization\, software testing\, detecting security leaks\, etc. Since the introduction of CD in the late eighties\, numerous extensions of the standard definition and computation methods have been developed over time to deal with the modern programming language constructs. In this talk\, I will discuss the most generalized version of control dependency\, namely weak and strong control closure\, and their implication in static program analysis. I will showcase how these concepts can be used in program slicing and detecting timing leaks (a security vulnerability) in modern software. \nMost welcome to the seminar and please share this invitation with your colleagues! \n____________________________________________________________\nMicrosoft Teams-möte \nJobba på datorn eller mobilappen \nKlicka här för att ansluta till mötet \nEller ring in (endast ljud) \n+46 8 505 218 36\,\,214060663#   Sweden\, Stockholm \nTelefonkonferens-ID: 214 060 663# \nHitta ett lokalt nummer | Återställ PIN-kod \nLäs mer | Mötesalternativ \n____________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Test Environments for Large-Scale Software Systems
DESCRIPTION:Title: Test Environments for Large-Scale Software Systems – Intrinsic and Extrinsic Success Factors \nSpeaker: Torvald Mårtensson\, Saab AB (Software Center Project #6) \nAbstract: Based on a study including five Software Center companies\, this talk presents intrinsic and extrinsic success factors\, critical for successful implementations of test environments for large-scale and complex software systems. We find that successful implementations of test environments for large-scale software systems depend primarily on how they support the company’s business strategy\, test organization and product testability (the extrinsic success factors). Based on this\, test environments can then be optimized to improve test environment capabilities\, usability and stability (the intrinsic success factors). Furthermore\, this talk will show how challenges in the test environment are to a great extent related to hardware systems\, even though all five case study companies describe themselves as software companies. Finally\, we will describe how test environments are a vital part of the continuous integration and delivery pipeline\, and must evolve in the same way as new test cases are continuously added to the pipeline. A clear responsibility for this continuously ongoing task (central or distributed) seems to be crucial for successful implementations of efficient and effective test environments for large-scale software systems. \n____________________________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams-möte \nJobba på datorn eller mobilappen \nKlicka här för att ansluta till mötet \nEller ring in (endast ljud) \n+46 8 505 323 41\,\,218351957#   Sweden\, Stockholm \nTelefonkonferens-ID: 218 351 957# \n____________________________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Modeling and Engineering Beyond Narrow AI
DESCRIPTION:Very welcome to the Software Center lunch seminar organized by the AI Engineering theme. We have a special guest speaker this time\, Dr. Bernhard Moser\, who is the research director of the Software Competence Center in Hagenberg\, Austria: \nTitle: Modeling and Engineering Beyond Narrow AI at SCCH   \nSpeaker: Dr. Bernhard A. Moser\, Research Director\, Software Competence Center Hagenberg GmbH\, Hagenberg\, Austria \nToday’s machine intelligence is driven by the Big Data paradigm. Despite its success in recent years\, there are severe limitations for a broader scope of applicability.  We outline two directions beyond these limitations: First\, there is the problem of limited data\, which requires transfer learning to compensate for the lack of data by extracting knowledge from trained models in a similar but different setting.  Second\, there is the problem of limited semantics and contextualization of a pure statistical approach which calls for integrating linked data and relational machine learning. In this context we discuss application scenarios\, challenges and progress from ongoing research at SCCH. \nReferences: \n\nFischer\, L. Ehrlinger\, V. Geist\, R. Ramler\, F. Sobiezky\, W. SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Changing software-intensive business with ecosystems
DESCRIPTION:Most welcome to the next Software Center lunch seminar on May 2nd. The seminar is hosted by theme 4 (‘Customer Data and Ecosystems’)\, and we have the privilege to welcome Dr. Sami Hyrynsalmi\, LUT as our speaker. \nSpeaker: Dr. Sami Hyrynsalmi\, Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT in Lahti\, Finland \nDuring the last decade\, ecosystems become a new standard way of working for businesses. Instead of working alone\, companies are working together in loose networks for adding their strengths together. Yet\, ecosystems still pose a number of open questions. This presentation takes a look on two rather different cases. The first part covers the ‘ecosystem health’ metaphor\, its problems\, and possible solutions. The second part takes a look how the ecosystem approach could perhaps be utilized in the data economy as a way to create new revenue out of existing data. \nDr. Sami Hyrynsalmi works as an Associate Professor of Software Engineering in Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT in Lahti\, Finland. He received a degree of Doctor of Science from University of Turku in 2014 and was granted the Title of Docent in Software Production and Business from the same university in 2020. Currently\, he leads a Master’s Program on Software Product Management and Business in Lahti and acts as the vice-head of the Software Engineering Department. His research interests cover software business\, especially software ecosystems and understanding the business potential of emerging technologies. \n__________________________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nOr call in (audio only) \n+46 8 505 252 11\,\,672998151#   Sweden\, Stockholm \nPhone Conference ID: 672 998 151# \nFind a local number | Reset PIN \nLearn More | Meeting options \n__________________________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Critical Requirements Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Ola Leifler\, LiU\n\n\nUnderstanding how to efficiently build and deploy software\, whether through continuous integration\, adoption of AI techniques or service-based business models\, requires critical thinking and reflection on ideas and outcomes. Similarly\, critical thinking is essential in understanding what to build and why. Critical requirements engineering is a term to describe a framework for critically analyzing the reasoning behind and decisions taken in designing new systems. This talk will present an outline of the Critical Systems Heuristics which form the basis for thinking about requirements\, and how to employ Critical Requirements Engineering as part of a design process.\n_________________________________________________\n\nMicrosoft Teams meeting\n\nJoin on your computer or mobile app\nClick here to join the meeting\n\nOr call in (audio only)\n+46 8 505 323 41\,\,170344399#   Sweden\, Stockholm\n\nPhone Conference ID: 170 344 399# \nFind a local number | Reset PIN\n\n\n\nLearn More | Help | Meeting options\n\n\n______________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Transitioning to Continuous Deployment in Software-Intensive Embedded Systems
DESCRIPTION:The seminar is hosted by theme 4 (‘Customer Data and Ecosystems’) and as our speaker\, we have the privilege to welcome Anas Dakkak from Ericsson AB: \n“From fairy tale to reality: Transitioning to Continuous Deployment in Software-Intensive Embedded Systems”\nContinuous deployment has become a widespread practice in the software industry\, especially among companies developing web and cloud-based applications. The expected advantages of continuous deployment are many; however\, some of the most obvious are faster time to market\, quicker feedback\, and the ability to experiment with real users. While the same advantages are sought by companies working in the embedded software space\, adopting continuous deployment to software-intensive embedded systems is often challenging. Several reasons have been identified as obstacles limiting organizations from transitioning to continuous deployment\, such as high reliability and availability requirements\, difficulty to roll-back the software\, and the long cycle of customer acceptance and regression testing procedures. \nThis presentation will present the success factors that companies need to consider when transitioning to continuous deployment and show the perceived benefits\, based on a case study conducted at Ericsson AB. Ericsson has been practicing continuous deployment for several years in the radio baseband product line covering 3G\, 4G\, and 5G technologies. Continuous deployment is a cornerstone activity at Ericsson to enable higher quality software and shorting in the feedback and time to market. \nBio:\nAnas Dakkak is the head of customer support systems management at Ericsson AB. He has more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunication industry\, where he worked with a variety of areas such as R&D\, technical management\, and customer support. His interests cover agile methodologies\, continuous practices\, and systems architecture. Anas holds two MSc degrees: Telecommunications Engineering from Blekinge Tekniska Högskola\, and Operations & Production Management from Chalmers University.\n_______________________________ \n\nMicrosoft Teams meeting\n\nJoin on your computer or mobile app\nClick here to join the meeting \n\n\nOr call in (audio only)\n+46 8 505 252 11\,\,129250542#   Sweden\, Stockholm\n\nPhone Conference ID: 129 250 542# \nFind a local number | Reset PIN\nLearn More | Meeting options

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Comparing Input Prioritization Techniques for Testing Deep Learning Algorithms
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Software Center lunch seminar organized by theme 3:\nComparing Input Prioritization Techniques for Testing Deep Learning Algorithms \nSpeaker: Masilii Mosin\, Volvo Cars\, Associated Project DeVeLoP \nDeep learning (DL) systems are becoming more popular in modern software due to their ability to solve complex problems. For example\, they are used in safety-critical applications\, such as camera perception in self-driving cars. It is important to thoroughly test such DL systems by ensuring their correctness on the predefined test set. This is a challenging task in itself since the test sets can grow over time as the new data is being acquired. Therefore\, it becomes time-consuming to test the system on all test inputs. Thus\, input prioritization is necessary to reduce the testing time since prioritized test inputs are more likely to reveal the erroneous behavior of a DL system earlier during test execution. Also\, when testing only on the prioritized test inputs\, there is no need to label the rest of the test set\, thus reducing the total labeling cost. \nIn this study\, we compare test input prioritization techniques of different types in terms of their effectiveness and efficiency. In particular\, we consider surprise adequacy\, autoencoder-based\, and similarity-based input prioritization approaches on the example of testing a DL image classification algorithm applied on MNIST\, Fashion-MNIST\, CIFAR-10\, and STL-10 datasets. We use a modified APFD (Average Percentage of Fault Detected) as the test input prioritization performance measure to operationalize the effectiveness. We use the setup and execution time as a measure to operationalize the efficiency. We observe that the surprise adequacy approach is the most effective with the performance from 0.785 to 0.914 APFD. The autoencoder-based and similarity-based approaches are less effective with the performance from 0.532 to 0.744 APFD and from 0.579 to 0.709 APFD respectively. At the same time\, the similarity-based approach is the most efficient\, and the surprise adequacy approach is the least efficient. The findings in this work demonstrate the trade-off between the considered input prioritization techniques to understand their practical applicability for testing DL algorithms. \n_____________________________________________________\nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nLearn More | Meeting options \n______________________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Non-functional Requirements for Machine Learning
DESCRIPTION:Non-functional Requirements for Machine Learning: Understanding Current Use and Challenges in Industry \nThis week\, we have a presentation from our new associated project iNFORM\, which studies non-functional requirements for machine learning. Speaker: Khan Mohammad Habibullah \nMachine Learning (ML) is an application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that uses big data to produce complex predictions and decision-making systems\, which would be challenging to obtain otherwise. To ensure the success of ML-enabled systems\, it is essential to be aware of certain qualities of ML solutions (performance\, transparency\, fairness)\, known from a Requirement Engineering (RE) perspective as non-functional requirements (NFRs). However\, when systems involve ML\, NFRs for traditional software may not apply in the same ways; some NFRs may become more prominent or less important; NFRs may be defined over the ML model\, data\, or the entire system; and NFRs for ML may be measured differently. In this work\, we aim to understand the state-of-the-art and challenges of dealing with NFRs for ML in industry. We interviewed ten engineering practitioners working with NFRs and ML. We find examples of (1) the identification and measurement of NFRs for ML\, (2) identification of more and less important NFRs for ML\, and (3) the challenges associated with NFRs and ML in the industry. This knowledge paints a picture of how ML-related NFRs are treated in practice and helps to guide future RE for ML efforts \n___________________________________________________\nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nLearn More | Meeting options \n___________________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Creating light-weight consistency checks
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the next Software Center lunch seminar hosted by theme 2: \n\n\nTitle: Creating light-weight consistency checks for continuous model-based development \n\n\nSpeaker: Robbert Jongeling\, Mälardalen University\n\n\n\n\nAbstract:\n \n\nModel-based development (MBD) incorporates any practices where models are used as core development artefacts\, that is\, they are created and maintained with the purpose of designing and/or documenting the system under development. As in other development paradigms\, it is commonly desired to adopt short development cycles in MBD too. When doing so\, one of the most challenging tasks is to establish\, and frequently maintain\, consistency between (a subset of) diverse development artefacts\, such as a system model\, requirements\, design models\, architecture diagrams\, code\, configuration files\, tests\, etc. Complete consistency across all artefacts is usually not required nor desirable but being notified of inconsistency to prevent its propagation to other development artefacts is crucial.\nIn this talk\, we discuss different levels of adoption of continuous MBD and how to migrate between them. In particular\, we discuss a framework for establishing lightweight consistency checks across diverse development artefacts in industrial settings.\n\n\nMost welcome to the seminar and please share this invitation with your colleagues!\n\n\nAlso\, please note that everyone interested in getting invitation to future lunch seminars can sign up using the following link: https://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_lunchseminars\n\n\n\nBest regards\nJan Carlson \n\n\n\n\n__________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams-möte \n\n\n\nJobba på datorn eller mobilappen\nKlicka här för att ansluta till mötet \n\n\nEller ring in (endast ljud)\n+46 8 505 218 36\,\,118572325#   Sweden\, Stockholm\n\nTelefonkonferens-ID: 118 572 325# \nHitta ett lokalt nummer | Återställ PIN-kod\nLäs mer | Mötesalternativ

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Results from a survey about AI and testing
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent in software testing\, as evidenced by a recent report from the World Quality Report (WQR) for the year 2019-2020. Typically\, the use of AI in software testing results in a faster\, better\, and more budgeted testing process. Artificial intelligence-based testing\, thus\, provides a strategic framework for software testers to utilize AI and elevate the testing process\, resulting in higher-quality results for companies. AI-based software testing refers to the leverage of AI methods and solutions to automatically optimize a software test process in test strategy selection\, test generation\, test selection and execution\, bug detection and analysis\, and quality prediction. Similarly\, testing AI/ML systems/components refer to diverse testing activities for AI-based software/systems. Well-defined quality validation models\, methods\, techniques\, and tools must be developed and applied for AI-based software to facilitate the test activities to achieve well-defined test requirements and meet adequate testing criteria. \nWe conducted a survey of SC organizations in project 30 to learn about their day-to-day operations in terms of AI for Testing / Testing for AI. \nThe results of the survey and the needs of SC companies will be discussed at this event \nSpeaker: Azeem Ahmad\, LiU

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Service innovation and development
DESCRIPTION:Most welcome to the next Software Center lunch seminar that\, due to a Software Center steering committee meeting and Christmas holidays\, is organized on January 17th\, 2022. \nThe seminar is hosted by theme 4 (‘Customer Data and Ecosystems’) and our speaker Helena H. Olsson\, Malmö University: \n“NOT my job: On the challenges with service innovation and development”\nWith digitalization disrupting industry after industry to an extent that we have only seen the beginnings of\, the business landscape in which the Software Center companies operate is dramatically changing. Key to digital transformation\, and one of the challenges that the Software Center companies face\, is the shift from product-oriented and transactional business models towards continuous and more service-oriented revenue. \nHowever\, service innovation and development brings several challenges to existing organizations and ways-of-working. In our experience\, developing services that go beyond existing sales and that generate entirely new revenue streams prove difficult and involve challenges such as e.g.\, prioritization and validation of ideas\, continuous evaluation with customers\, cross-functional teams that go beyond R&D and the adoption of new ways-of-working. \nIn this presentation\, we present the key challenges that we see the Software Center companies face when developing complementary services to their products. Also\, we outline the steps companies need to take to evolve from product-centric service development towards customer-base centric services where the “real” opportunities for monetization and new revenue streams exist. \nMost welcome to the seminar and please share this invite with your colleagues!  \nAlso\, please note that everyone interested in getting the invites for the lunch seminars can sign up using the following link: https://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_bb \n___________________________________________________Microsoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nOr call in (audio only) \n+46 8 505 252 11\,\,724575698#   Sweden\, Stockholm \nPhone Conference ID: 724 575 698# \nFind a local number | Reset PIN \nLearn More | Meeting options

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Towards Mature Enterprises in AI engineering
DESCRIPTION:The first Software Center lunch seminar of 2022 will be presented by Ivica Crnkovic\, professor at Chalmers and former director of the Chalmers AI Research center (CHAIR). \nTitle: Towards Mature Enterprises in AI engineering – challenges and directions towards possible solutions \nThe hype of AI/ML is getting in his mature phase. A focus from a fascination about endless possibilities and business opportunities and predictions of horror scenarios\, has moved to a better understanding of the real current problems\, costs to solve them\, risk to fail\, and the real new business values. \nSoftware Center was one of the first initiatives in the world taking the questions related how to build AI systems (aka AI-enabled systems) in an industrial context\, identifying AI Engineering – engineering methods\, tools\, and processes focusing on system lifecycles\, that are far beyond development of “the best” AI algorithms. This initiative is realized in theme 5 “AI Engineering”\, and currently there are ongoing several project.  Our intention is to expand AI Engineering theme with new projects. \nIn this seminar we will present current and future challenges in development of AI systems\, in particular those that are related to Software Center  partners\, and that are most likely be addressed in the future projects. \nWe will shortly refer to  a) challenges in research and practice in AI-enabled system development including management of multiple developments and operational (runtime) environments\, and system quality and its verification and validation vs. ML evaluation\, and  b) possible directions towards solutions in shaping integrated system development process\, characterizing AI components in related to the system\, and ensuring integrity of the AI-enabled systems. \nWarm welcome!\nJan Bosch \n  \n_____________________________________________Microsoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nLearn More | Meeting options \n_____________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Communicating software metrics
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for the next lunch seminar\, this time organized by the metrics theme\, and project #37: \n“It is no blame game”: How to succeed in communicating software metrics in the organization? \nMeasuring the correct metrics and using it in the right and transparent way can contribute to pushing the development in a desirable direction\, leading to achieving projected goals and outcomes\, effective collaboration\, and improved team performance. On the other hand\, tracking the wrong metrics\, failing to interpret it correctly and to communicate it properly leads to a stressful working environment\, conflicts\, distrust\, lower engagement\, and lower productivity. Effective communication about metrics is vital for creating a shared understanding of metrics’ role\, its use\, and acceptance on different organizational levels. \nThe vision of our project is to understand and improve communication about metrics in contexts of modern software development organizations. We aim at providing insights on and suggestions for enabling effective communication about metrics using different communication channels\, which consequently leads to creating a better understanding of metrics\, contributes to more actionable decisions and increases employee involvement. \nIn our presentation\, we will present some bottlenecks in the process of metrics communication and the strategies for overcoming them. We will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different channels for transmitting information about metrics. Further\, we will discuss the issues of trust and control in the context of software metrics delivery. \nSpeaker: Nataliya Berbyuk Lindström\, Associate Professor\, Department of Applied IT\, University of Gothenburg \n__________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nLearn More | Meeting options \n__________________________________________\nSC_LunchSeminars mailing list SC_LunchSeminars@lists.chalmers.sehttps://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_lunchseminars

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Consistent development artifacts
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the next Software Center lunch seminar hosted by theme 2: Consistent development artifacts – a reality check \nSpeaker: Jan Carlson\, Mälardalen University \n \nDevelopment of complex software of high quality can involve a number of artifacts in addition to the produced code\, from requirement documents\, models at architectural and design level to test suits. As development becomes more agile\, these artifacts must be allowed to evolve concurrently\, while still retaining a sufficient level of consistency between them (or at least being aware of inconsistencies). This talk addresses the topic of consistency and synchronization between different development artefacts and how this relates to the push towards shorter development cycles. Different kinds of consistency challenges will be presented\, as well as to what extent existing solutions proposed by academia are suitable in concrete industrial contexts. \nMost welcome to the seminar and please share this invitation with your colleagues! \nAlso\, please note that everyone interested in getting invitation to future lunch seminars can sign up using the following link: https://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_lunchseminars \n\n\n  \n_________________________________________\nMicrosoft Teams-möte\n\n\nJobba på datorn eller mobilappen\nKlicka här för att ansluta till mötet\n\nEller ring in (endast ljud)\n+46 8 505 218 36\,\,915731636#   Sweden\, Stockholm\n\nTelefonkonferens-ID: 915 731 636# \nHitta ett lokalt nummer | Återställ PIN-kod\nLäs mer | Mötesalternativ\n\n\n__________________________________________\n— SC_LunchSeminars mailing list SC_LunchSeminars@lists.chalmers.sehttps://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_lunchseminars

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Why data for AI needs context
DESCRIPTION:Most welcome to the Software Center Brown Bag seminar on November 8th:\n”Setting AI in context: Why data for AI needs context”\nThe seminar is hosted by theme 4 (‘Customer Data and Ecosystem Driven Development’) and we are happy to welcome Hans-Martin Heyn as our speaker. Hans-Martin is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chalmers/University of Gothenburg. \nFor automated driving systems the operational context needs to be known in order to state guarantees on performance and safety. We show\, based on semi-structured interviews\, that major uncertainties exist in how to clearly define and document the operational context in a diverse and distributed development environment such as the automotive industry. This is problematic especially for systems using machine learning\, because data attributes and data quality for training and validation depends on the assumed context of the system. Based on Design Science Research\, we propose a Data Quality Assessment and Maintenance Framework\, to systematically manage data quality and related requirements. \nMost welcome to the seminar and please share this invite with your colleagues! \nAlso\, please note that everyone interested in getting the invites for the Brown Bag seminars can sign up using the following link: https://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_bb \n______________________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nOr call in (audio only) \n+46 8 505 252 11\,\,335136139#   Sweden\, Stockholm \nPhone Conference ID: 335 136 139# \nFind a local number | Reset PIN \nLearn More | Meeting options \n______________________________________________________ \n— Sc_bb mailing list Sc_bb@lists.chalmers.se https://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_bb

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Improving Machine Learning-based Test Case Selection
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the next Brown bag seminar: Noise Handling for Improving Machine Learning-based Test Case Selection \nThis week\, our doctoral candidate Khaled Al-Sabbagh will present his research about noise selection – which is a preparation for his Licentiate seminar. \nBackground:\nContinuous integration is a modern software engineering practice that promotes for continuously integrating and testing new code changes as soon as they get submitted to the project repository.  One challenge in continuous integration concerns the ability to select a subset of test cases that have the highest probability of revealing faults during each integration cycle. The availability of large amounts of data about code changes and executed test cases in continuous integration systems poses an opportunity to design data-driven approaches that can effectively select test cases for regression testing. \nObjective: The objective of this thesis is to create a method for selecting test cases that have the highest probability of revealing faults in the system\, given new code changes pushed into the code-base. Using  historically committed source code and their respective executed test cases\, we can utilize textual analysis and machine learning to design a method\, called MeBoTS\, that can learn the selection of test cases. \nMethod: To address this objective\, we carried out two design science research cycles and two controlled experiments. A combination of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were used\, including testing and code commits data\, surveys\, and a workshop\, to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of MeBoTS in selecting effective test cases. \nResults: The main findings of this thesis are that: 1) using an elimination and a re-labelling strategy for handling class noise in the data increases the performance of MeBoTS from 25% to 84% (F1-score)\, 2) eliminating attribute noise from the training data does not improve the predictive performance of a test selection model (F1-score remains unchanged at 66%)\, and 3) memory management changes in the source code should be tested with performance\, load\, soak\, stress\, volume\, and capacity tests; the algorithmic complexity changes should be tested with the same tests for memory management code changes in addition to maintainability tests. \nConclusion: Our first conclusion is that textual analysis of source code can be effective in test case selection if a class noise handling strategy is applied for curating incorrectly labeled data points in the training data. Secondly\, test orchestrators do not need to handle attribute noise in the data\, since it does not lead to an improvement in the performance of MeBoTS. Finally\, we conclude that the performance of MeBoTS can be improved by instrumenting a tool that automatically associates code changes of specific types to test cases that are in dependency for training. \n__________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nLearn More | Meeting options \n__________________________________________ \n— Sc_bb mailing list Sc_bb@lists.chalmers.sehttps://lists.chalmers.se/mailman/listinfo/sc_bb

SUMMARY:Metrics lunch seminar
DESCRIPTION:Deep neural networks trained on source code have been shown to automate routine development tasks such as code completion\, comments generation\, etc. But is such an AI expert in coding also an expert in software design? With design often being considered as a specialist skill\, what do we do to ensure that the model understands nuances of SW design? Ensuring this opens up possibilities of automating design-related tasks. This talk will introduce our first experiments in taking a deep learning approach to SW design. \nSpeaker: Dhasarathy Parthasarathy\, Principal Research Engineer\, Volvo Group \nLooking forward to see you all next Monday! \n___________________________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin on your computer or mobile app \nClick here to join the meeting \nLearn More | Meeting options \n___________________________________________________________

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: "Macrodebts" in microservices
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to another Software Center lunch seminar\, this time from theme 2:\n“Macrodebts” in microservices: understanding and managing them \nSpeakers: Antonio Martini and Saulo Soares de Toledo \nThe microservices architectural style is increasing in popularity because it helps companies deliver value to their customers fast and continuously. However\, a microservice architecture is prone to costly architectural technical debt (ATD)\, if not timely identified and avoided or removed. The most important ATDs must be prioritized. Still\, there is limited knowledge regarding the identification and prioritization of ATD in companies developing or migrating to microservices. We conducted a set of studies in 10 companies on the identification and management of ATD in microservices. We propose a prioritization strategy by presenting data from experienced companies\, and we measure the benefits and costs of reducing ATD in microservices. Other organizations may use the information shared to help identify and manage ATDs in microservices in their own contexts. \n _____________________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams-möte \nJobba på datorn eller mobilappen \nKlicka här för att ansluta till mötet \nEller ring in (endast ljud) \n+46 8 505 218 36\,\,342816243#   Sweden\, Stockholm \nTelefonkonferens-ID: 342 816 243# \nHitta ett lokalt nummer | Återställ PIN-kod \nLäs mer | Mötesalternativ

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Individual test designer performance
DESCRIPTION:Lunch seminar hosted by Theme1:\nIndividual test designer performance – an elephant in the room or an asset for improvement? \nSpeaker: Kristian Sandahl Linköping university \nIt is often heard that the quality of test code suffers compared to production code. A frequent problem is flaky tests\, where it is time consuming to determine the credibility of the test. The underlying assumption of this planned research is that probable causes can depend on the way humans design test cases and that a good part of the problems might have been discovered with static analysis of the test code. Remedies can be sought in identifying training needs\, finding good patterns for test design\, and applying automatic code repair. \nThis research involves acquiring sensitive information\, and I would like to discuss with the audience how this can be handled. I will share some past experience to get us started. \n____________________________________________________________ \nMicrosoft Teams-möte: \nKlicka här för att ansluta till mötet \nEller ring in (endast ljud) \n+46 8 505 323 41\,\,856354173#   Sweden\, Stockholm \nTelefonkonferens-ID: 856 354 173# \nHitta ett lokalt nummer | Återställ PIN-kod \n
