SUMMARY:Software Center lunch seminar
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to a lunch seminar arranged by the Continuous Architecture theme: \n“Sorry\, there is no digital transformation without software sustainability”\nSpeakers: Patricia Lago and Birgit Penzenstadler \nThis talk presents a brief overview of the results of the first sprint of the Sustainability Analysis project and gives insights into the ongoing sprint from our partnership with Jeppesen-Boeing which focuses on Design Decision Maps and Sustainability Goals as a basis for a Sustainability Quality Model. We bring a few questions to discuss with attendees and look forward to more opportunities for collaboration.

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar: Continuous Delivery
DESCRIPTION:Title: Multi-factor Approach for Flaky Test Detection and Automated Root Cause Analysis \nSpeaker: Azeem Ahmad\, Linköping University \nAbstract:  Re-running test cases is the most popular and adopted approach to detect flaky test in large scale industries. Re-running is costly because it consumes a lot of computing power. Google uses 2-16% of its testing budget just to re-run flaky tests. Re-running is unreliable because it is hard to determine the number of re-runs to find discrepancy in output. We developed\, implemented and evaluated multi-factor approach to detect flaky test without re-running. The contributed factors are (1) number of test smells in the test cases\, (2) whether test case failed after executing on the corresponding change in production code\, (3) test case history\, and (4) test case size. The machine learning algorithm is implemented to find relationships between the contributed factors and the possibility of test flakiness. Once the build is failed\, our tool can determine whether the failed test case is a real failure or flaky.

SUMMARY:Data pricing - Product management workshop
DESCRIPTION:Most welcome to a workshop on ’Data pricing’ which we run as part of the PdM community workshop series. \nLocation:\nHybrid event (On-site at Lindholmen and online using Microsoft Teams) \nBackground:\nOften\, data is described as the “new oil” and very recently it was described as an “anti-commodity” in a presentation highlighting the potential of data to reshape and redefine business models and revenue streams. For companies\, there are a number of ways in which to exploit data: \n\nData is used to generate benefits within the organization and within the scope of the company\nData is shared with others to generate benefits that are non-monetary but instead indirectly monetizable and related to e.g. risk\, warranty etc.\nData is sold with monetary reimbursement\n\nFocus:\nIn this workshop\, we explore how the participating companies create and exploit value out of the data they collect from products in the field in (1) monetary and/or non-monetary ways and for (2)interorganizational use and/or external use. The data can be both historical data and real-time data and in aggregated and/or non-aggregated form. \nFormat:\nThe workshop is organized as a hybrid workshop with the opportunity to call in using Microsoft Teams (link in the end of this invite) or to participate in-person at Lindholmen in Gothenburg (if you would want to participate in-person please let us know in advance). In the workshop\, we provide an introduction of the topic as well as selected research findings before we invite the participating companies to share experience and expertise on the topics mentioned above. We end the workshop with discussions and reflections and we plan for next steps. \n The workshop is a cross-company workshop to which all Software Center companies are invited to exchange knowledge and best practices. It is organized especially for product managers as part of the PdM community workshop series but is open also to other roles and for everyone with an interest in the topic(s) we explore.  \nPreparations:\nAs input for the discussions\, and in order for you to learn from each other\, we ask every participating company to provide a short presentation (10 minutes) on the following: \n\nHow is data (historical and/or real-time – aggregated and/or non-aggregated) used within the organization and within the scope of the company?\nHow is data (historical and/or real-time – aggregated and/or non-aggregated) shared with others to generate benefits that are non-monetary but instead indirectly monetizable and related to e.g. risk\, warranty etc.?\nHow is data (historical and/or real-time – aggregated and/or non-aggregated) sold to other parties (existing customers and/or new customers)?\n\nWe ask for a presentation based on the above questions from each company. Please note that if you are not able to coordinate with your colleagues beforehand\, we are perfectly fine with having several presentations from the same company and we will do what we can to adjust the agenda during the workshop accordingly. \nMost welcome and please help us share this invite with your colleagues. We appreciate it and we are grateful for your help in helping us extend the group to involve new people and roles relevant for this topic! \n

SUMMARY:PdM community workshop on ’Business Agility’
DESCRIPTION:We welcome the Software Center partners to the next Product data Management (PdM) community workshop on the topic of business agility. \nWORKSHOP FOCUS\nIn this workshop\, we: \n\nDiscuss the current ways-of-working in the participant companies with regards to the different technologies involved in a system (i.e. mechanics – electronics – software – data – AI). In this discussion\, we explore the level of agility for each technology and to what extent agile practices are applicable.\nIdentify the challenges that companies experience when applying agile practices to the more traditional (and non-software) parts of the organization as well as how they typically manage these challenges.\nExplore the potential to complement\, and/or replace\, traditional business models with models for continuous value capture and how the combination of the two helps improve business agility.\n\nWORKSHOP OUTCOMES\nWith this workshop\, we aim to (1) identify the optimal level of agility for each technology involved in an embedded system\, we (2) explore strategies for managing challenges when applying agile practices in non-software parts of the organization and we (3) discuss how business agility is accelerated by strategic use of transactional and digital business models. \nWORKSHOP FORMAT\nThe workshop is a cross-company workshop to which all Software Center companies are invited. It is organized especially for product managers as part of the PdM community workshop series and with the intention to have the companies exchange knowledge and best practices. \nBACKGROUND\nBusiness agility is critical for companies across domains as it involves the ability to quickly respond to market dynamics and to emerging technologies. While business agility\, and agile practices as its enabler\, has predominantly been associated with the software industry it is rapidly becoming key for companies in the embedded systems industry. \nHowever\, the adoption of agile practices is fundamentally different in embedded systems companies compared to software companies. For embedded systems companies\, business agility requires all parts of the system to be agile\, including traditional technologies such as mechanics and electronics as well as digital technologies such as software\, data and AI. \nDue to this\, agility means different things for the different technologies involved and for an embedded systems company business agility is achieved when having (1) identified the optimal level of agility for each technology. \nMoreover\, while traditional technologies have so far been monetized using transactional business models\, digital technologies allow for continuous business models in which frequent improvements of system functionality makes systems improve throughout their economic life. This means that business agility is achieved when (2) the transactional business models are complemented\, or replaced with\, with models that enable continuous value capture of these technologies. \nRegistration: Please send an e-mail to helena.holmstrom.olsson@mau.se if you are interested in participating

SUMMARY:Reporting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In Software Center\, companies and universities work together to accelerate the adoption of novel approaches to software engineering. The reporting workshop takes place twice a year\, in June and December. This one day event aims at sharing results from research and cooperation within Software Center. The agenda ranges from key note presentations to in-depth sessions for themes and projects. The cooperation between academia and companies in Software Center creates the software engineering success stories that industry needs. \nThe focus on the workshop will be on longer\, more in-depth presentations with “meaty” content and there should be ample relevant content for all communities (software\, product management\, systems engineering\, etc.). \nThe June workshop will be the first ever all digital Reporting workshop and we will get back to all participants with meeting details closer to the event.
