From Hype to Impact: Making AI Work Across Products, R&D and Business

December 10 @ 13:00 - 16:00

AI is no longer a future promise. It is reshaping the products we build, the way we build them, and how our organizations make decisions. Yet for most companies, the hard questions remain: How do we move from pilots to products at scale? How do we use data we can’t centralize? How do we organize R&D when development becomes increasingly data-driven and AI-assisted? What happens when agents consume data?

Join industry practitioners and researchers from Software Center for an afternoon of keynotes, short talks and hands-on discussions on what it actually takes to adopt AI, and what is working (and not working) in practice.

What’s on the agenda?

13:00 – 13:10: Welcome and introduction: Helena Holmström Olsson, Malmö University

13:10 – 13:30: Presentation: Engineering Learning Systems – Jan Bosch, Chalmers University of Technology

13:30 – 14:10: Opening Keynote: To be announced
Speaker from industry who shares a perspective on how AI is transforming our field, from AI-assisted development to new ways of building and evolving software-intensive systems.

14:10 – 15:00: Short talks

  • Data access regimes and hybrid ecosystems: Helena Holmström Olsson
What happens when the consumer of data is not a human but instead an agent, and what happens when software is no longer the core around which we organize but instead we have ecosystem in which software, data and AI models co-evolve?
  • AI in products: Spyridon Alvanakis Aposolou, Chalmers University of Technology
How companies embed AI and ML in their offerings, and what it takes to deploy, monitor and continuously improve AI-enabled features in the field.
  • Fleet learning: Mina Badri, Malmö University
Learning from distributed data without moving it. Real-world experiences, opportunities and challenges in industrial settings where privacy, bandwidth and data ownership matter.
  • Data management for AI: Hariharan Gopinath, Chalmers University of Technology
Data quality and trustworhtiness: the often underestimated foundation that determines whether AI succeeds or stalls.
  • Data-driven R&D and product evolution: Sayeri Mukherjee, Malmö University
Using data to decide what to build, how to manage products over their lifecycle and how to evolve and govern them continuously.

15:00 – 15:45: Break-out group discussions
Small-group sessions where you can bring your own challenges, compare approaches with peers from other companies and shape the research questions we work on next.

15:45 – 16:00: Wrap-up and conclusions

Why attend?

  • Learn from peers. Hear how leading companies are tackling AI adoption in practice.
  • Get research-backed insights. Access findings from years of collaborative research with industry partners.
  • Bring your challenges. The break-outs are designed around real problems, not slides.
  • Build your network. Meet practitioners, architects, managers and researchers working on the same questions.

Please note that online attendence (“listening in”) will be possible. However, the superior experience is participating in-person as the event is intended as an interactive session with discussion and networking opportunities.

Who should join?

The workshop is an open event for R&D managers, product managers, architects, data scientists, ML engineers, software engineers and anyone responsible for driving AI and data initiatives in their organization.
