Ericsson Research Director Catrin Granbom new Chair of Software Center Board

Catrin Granbom, Research Director for Compute and Software at Ericsson Research, has been appointed Chair of the Board at Software Center. With a long background in software research and a deep understanding of how technologies like AI, compute, and mobile networks are converging, she brings a clear vision for how the collaboration can continue driving world-leading software innovation in Sweden.

At Ericsson, Granbom leads the company’s research in software systems, looking ten years ahead to understand how emerging technologies will shape the next generation of connected solutions. Her focus is mainly on the compute and advanced network technologies, with a focus on heterogeneous computing and software models — from hardware acceleration to emerging future-compute paradigms — that will support next-generation 6G, beyond-6G, and AI-enabled architectures.

Vision for collaboration

As the new Chair of the Software Center Board, Granbom aims to strengthen the bridge between industry and academia, ensuring that the research carried out within the center remains both visionary and practically relevant.

“My vision as Chair is to continue strengthening the collaboration between academia and the companies. We need to make sure the work we do together both advances research and also helps our companies prepare for the technologies and opportunities of the future”, she says.

Key arena for real impact

Software Center is a key arena for turning research into real impact. Catrin Granbom describes it as a place where Swedish industry can collectively accelerate its ability to deliver smarter, faster, and more sustainable software solutions. She highlights the importance of maintaining a clear line of communication between strategic research and applied innovation.

“Software Center is unique because it allows companies and universities to explore, test, and share insights together. That communication is essential if we want to stay ahead in areas like intelligent and emerging software paradigms,” says Catrin Granbom.

For Granbom, Software Center represents not just a partnership but a shared commitment to Sweden’s global leadership in software innovation.

“Being part of Software Center is about shaping the future together”, Granbom says.
